Domain and DNS records
How to add a sender domain, which DNS records to paste (DKIM, SPF, DMARC, MX) and how to check them.
Last updated:
Your emails go out from your own domain (e.g. hello@yourcompany.com), not from a PingsYou address. That keeps them in the inbox and out of spam. It needs a few DNS records, added once.
Adding a domain
- Go to Settings → Sender domain (or step 3 of the wizard).
- Enter the Domain without www or http, e.g.
yourcompany.com, the sender name and the address part before @ (defaultkontakt). - Click Add domain. A table of DNS records appears.
- Copy each record (copy button next to the value) and add it at your domain provider - see Popular DNS providers.
- Come back and click Check now.
Which records the panel shows
| Type | Host | What for |
|---|---|---|
| CNAME (several) | e.g. py, s1._domainkey | DKIM (email signature) and SPF (permission to send from your domain). Copy the exact names and values from the panel. |
| TXT | _dmarc | DMARC: v=DMARC1; p=quarantine - tells mailboxes what to do with fakes. |
| MX | odp | Customer replies come back to the Inbox. Value mx.sendgrid.net, priority 10. |
Checking
Check now looks up DNS live. Every record gets a status: found, missing or not checked. When everything matches, you will see that the records match and warm-up starts.
- DNS changes can take a few hours to spread. You don't have to watch: for 7 days we re-check every hour and email you when the domain works.
- A missing MX record does not block sending - replies just won't reach the Inbox.
- Domain statuses: working, waiting for DNS, error.
The number of domains depends on your plan: Free and Spark - 1, Boost - 3, Rocket - 10, Scale - 100. The first domain is the default; pick another with Set as default.
